Education is the most important aspect of a monk's life. Tashi Lhunpo Monastery School was established in 1981 with an initial membership of 20 students. The school offers a modern education alongside the monastic curriculum. There are classes in the school between Upper KG and Class 8, and students receive lessons in Tibetan language and literature, English, Science, Maths and Computer Science as well as Buddhist philosophy. The current annual intake of new admissions is around 25 to 30 monks from all over the Himalayan regions. There are now over 150 students and a staff of 14 teachers. The annual cost for the school running is £31,750, which includes salaries for the 14 teachers (£21,000), books, stationery, exam expenses, computer lab maintenance costs and general office expenses. Any assistance you can offer will be gratefully received and appreciated by the whole of the monastic community.
