The monks are offered three meals a day.  Breakfast is usually either Tsampa (roasted barley flour)  or the special Monastery bread and Tibetan Butter Tea, made with milk and salt.  Lunch is usually rice with a vegetable or dal (lentil) stew, occasionally with an egg.  Dinner is Thukpa - Tibetan-style soup, sometimes with the addition of a piece of fruit.  The monastery food is entirely vegetarian.  The funding for the food is paid through the Food Fund which is administered by the Administrators,  one of whom takes direct responsibility for the provision of food and the kitchen for his three years of office.

Total cost to feed the full community of 413 monks is £31,800 for one year.

THE FOOD FUND APPEAL IS JUST ONE OF THE FUNDRAISING PROJECTS SUPPORTED BY TASHI LHUNPO MONASTERY UK TRUST.  FOR INFORMATION ABOUT ADDITIONAL PROJECTS, PLEASE CLICK ON THE DONATE BUTTON BELOW.
