WORKSHOPS

In association with a performance, the monks offer various different workshops.  A pre- performance workshop/talk provides an introduction to the dance, musical instruments and costumes used during the performance, and an explanation of the mudras or hand gestures used in the Tantric rituals.  Depending on space and numbers, it is also possible to teach some of the steps of the dance, and participants learn some of the hand gestures used in the prayer of Kunrik.

A ‘hands on’ workshop introduces the Tibetan arts of sand mandala making, butter sculpture and the beautiful calligraphy of the Tibetan script, and offers the opportunity to learn a few words of Tibetan from one of the monks.  People taking part can carry away with them a prayer flag printed from a traditional wood block.

There is an associated photographic display about the monastery and the daily lives of the monks living there.
