Tashi Lhunpo Tulkus Foundation Newly established in Tashi Lhunpo Monastery, the Tulkus Foundation has been formed to promote the monastery and lead its expansion outside Tibet. A ‘Tulku’ or ‘Rinpoche’ – translated as ‘Precious Jewel’ is the recognised reincarnation of a senior Tibetan scholar or teacher. Following the Chinese invasion of Tibet, many Rinpoches left Tibet and helped to reinstate their monasteries in India, Bhutan and India. Because the Panchen Lama was unable to leave, many of the most senior of Tashi Lhunpo’s monks also remained behind in Tibet. Now eleven of the monastery’s rinpoches are in Tashi Lhunpo monastery in India. The President of the Tulkus Foundation is Venerable Lochen Tulku.
